Senna Leaf Extract

Senna is a shrub growing in India and Pakistan. Its name is derived from the Arabic word “Sena”. The shrub can grow to about two feet high, with green stems, pods and yellow spade shaped leaves. The active ingredient in Senna is called sennoside, which is converted into another substance, Rhein anthrone, by microorganisms in the colon. This substance has beneficial effects on stimu-lating colonic activity (accelerating intestinal peristalsis and improving diges-tion) and increasing fluid secretion.
